In Session: Todd Breyfogle – The Aspen Institute

For Todd Breyfogle, Executive Director of Leadership Seminars at the Aspen Institute, thinking about leadership is a full-time job. For 75 years, the Aspen Executive Seminar on Leadership, Values, and the Good Society has challenged participants in every field to achieve meaningful leadership growth through a critical examination of their core values. Breyfogle designs and often moderates these seminars, as well as other iterations of the program that have emerged, like the Justice and Society Seminar.
The Aspen Institute was founded on the notion that bettering society requires leaders who are more self-aware, more self-correcting, and more humane. This is the basis on which Breyfogle’s work builds, as the Institute continues to invite leaders into spaces of shared meaning and reflection.
In this episode of In Session, Breyfogle shares a few of the lessons he has learned in almost 20 years of working with leaders in Aspen Institute seminars, including the importance of operationalizing values, leading with humility, and taking the long view when making decisions.
This video is a part of our new series In Session, in which we ask leaders from across the Aspen Institute network to reflect on their own leadership journeys and offer practical wisdom gained from their experiences.
