New England College Locks Tuition At $12,000 For 39 NH High Schools
Key Points
New England College in New Hampshire has expanded its High School Partnership Program to 39 New Hampshire high schools. Eligible graduates who start in fall 2027 will pay $12,000 a year in tuition, or $6,000 per semester. NEC locks that rate for up to four years, and there are no family income limits.
That posted price is rare at a private college, where what college really costs usually stays hidden until a financial aid offer arrives.
The expansion adds 23 schools to the 16 already in the program. Both Nashua high schools, Pinkerton Academy, Salem High School and Bedford High School are eligible for the first time.
NEC charged the two prior partnership classes $10,000 a year, according to its April 2025 announcement. This year’s seniors are the first class at the new $12,000 rate, and they should still file the FAFSA before state and school deadlines.

The $12,000 rate is about 72% below NEC’s 2026-27 full-time tuition of $43,040, based on its published tuition schedule (PDF File). It also undercuts the $16,304 in-state tuition the University of New Hampshire lists for 2026-27. A private college pricing tuition below the state flagship is unusual. We praised Wheaton College’s $30,000 tuition cut for a similar reason: families get a real price up front.
Few families pay NEC’s sticker price, though. Only 14% of undergraduates received no grants from any source, according to our New England College profile. Students receiving financial aid paid an average of $24,059 a year after grants, against a $60,846 sticker price.
That’s why families should weigh the partnership rate against a net price estimate, not the sticker price.
A commuter should budget about $13,900 a year, while an on-campus student should plan on at least $31,400. Both estimates come before federal Pell Grants, which partnership students can still receive.
NEC’s announcement doesn’t list fees or housing costs, so we built the estimate from older figures. Partnership commuters paid $11,900 for tuition and fees in 2025-26, which puts required fees near $1,900. Room and board ran $17,526 in 2024-25, according to federal College Navigator data.
Both numbers will likely rise by fall 2027, so treat these totals as a floor for NEC’s full cost of attendance. And realize things like room and board tend to rise 5-8% per year.
New England College’s $12,000 Rate Vs. UNH In-State Costs
| Cost | NEC Partnership (Estimate) | UNH In-State 2026-27 | Locked At NEC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuition | $12,000 | $16,304 | Yes |
| Required Fees | About $1,900 | $3,868 | No |
| Housing And Food | About $17,526 | $15,584 | No |
| Commuter Total | About $13,900 | $20,172 | Tuition only |
| On-Campus Total | About $31,400 | $35,756 | Tuition only |

Only tuition is locked. We tell families to price what they’ll really pay for college over four or five years, assuming 5% to 8% annual increases. Four years of locked tuition comes to $48,000. Fees and room and board rising 5% a year put the on-campus total near $131,700, or about $135,500 at 8%.
Commuters come out far ahead. Four years of tuition and fees would total about $56,200 with 5% annual fee increases. Families in Nashua, Salem or Claremont should still price the daily drive to Henniker before counting on those savings. Run either total through our college ROI calculator to check it against expected earnings for your major.
The lock covers four years, not five. Only 38% of NEC students graduate within six years, according to our NEC college data. The partnership page doesn’t say what a fifth year would cost. Families should also understand how financial aid works if a student drops out before committing to any four-year plan.
Commuters will have a hard time finding a better deal at NEC. On-campus students may do better with NEC’s regular financial aid, depending on family income. Our $31,400 on-campus estimate tops the $24,059 average net price for NEC students receiving financial aid, as shown on our NEC college profile. Middle-income families paid an average of $23,088, and low-income families paid $19,902.
Those federal averages come from earlier school years, but the spread is too big to ignore. Partnership students give up NEC grants, so ask the financial aid office to price both options side by side.
Our NEC cost and payoff calculator estimates a four-year cost by family income and intended major. If NEC’s regular offer comes in low, our steps for appealing a financial aid award still apply.
The College Investor rates New England College an F, with a score of 23 out of 100. Payoff, price, graduation rate and student debt all pull the score down, and the grade holds at every income level. On our New England College profile, 74% of students take out federal student loans, and the typical borrower leaves owing $26,000. Median earnings ten years after starting college are $47,863.
A lower posted price helps only one of those four factors. Choice of major matters a lot at NEC. Business administration graduates earned a median $63,909 four years after graduating, compared with $42,056 for design and applied arts graduates. Families should check NEC earnings by major before locking in four years, even at $12,000 a year.
NEC already offers community college graduates the same $12,000 rate for 2027-28 through its NH Transfer Guarantee program.
The high school partnerships join other efforts to recruit local students, such as the University of Hawaiʻi admitting seniors with no application.
Skipping campus housing is one of the few levers in our analysis of what actually lowers the price of college. A partnership student who commutes to Henniker gets a low posted price plus those housing savings.
This year’s high school seniors are the first class eligible for the $12,000 rate. NEC President Wayne F. Lesperance Jr. said the expansion helps “make a college education an attainable goal for more New Hampshire families.”
NEC hasn’t said whether more schools will join or whether the rate will rise again for 2028-29. Seniors at partner schools should file the FAFSA early, since partnership students still qualify for federal grants like the Pell Grant.
