LANSING, MI — The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) is undergoing a leadership transition as Luke Forrest steps down as Executive Director to lead engagement efforts in a new and exciting role with the Community & Worker Economic Transition Office which is a division of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO). This office was established earlier this year by the state legislature and, in his capacity, Forrest will help lead and support the state’s transition to clean energy technologies.
“During Luke’s tenure, CEDAM has grown its impact by fostering vibrant communities and strengthening local economies through innovative programs, partnerships, and strategic leadership,” said Essence Wilson, CEDAM’s Board President and Chief Strategy Officer for Communities First, Inc.
“The Board deeply appreciates Luke’s dedication and the significant contributions he has made to our organization.”
To ensure seamless continuity, CEDAM’s Board of Directors has named former Board President, Charlotte Smith as Interim Executive Director. They are also engaging a professional firm to conduct the comprehensive search for a permanent replacement. Charlotte Smith brings decades of experience in community and economic development, coupled with a deep commitment to CEDAM’s mission. As a former Board President and longtime supporter, Smith fully understands the organization’s goals and is well-equipped to lead during this transitional period.
“I am honored to step into this role and collaborate with CEDAM’s talented staff and dedicated partners,” said Smith. “Together, we will build on the progress achieved under Luke’s leadership, ensure the continued success of CEDAM’s impactful initiatives, and prepare the way for a successful onboarding of the new Executive Director, once selected.”
Reflecting on his five year tenure at CEDAM, Forrest said, “It has been an incredible honor to serve as Executive Director. I am proud of all we have achieved together. CEDAM’s mission is more vital than ever, and I am confident Charlotte’s leadership will guide the organization to continued success.”
CEDAM remains committed to its mission of strengthening Michigan’s communities and advancing equitable economic development. Updates on the search for a permanent Executive Director will be shared as they become available.
