Eddie N. Fakhoury Announced as New CEDAM Executive Director

LANSING, MI — The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) is pleased to announce Eddie N. Fakhoury as the new executive director, starting June 16. Eddie is succeeding Charlotte Smith, the interim executive director and former CEDAM Board president. With more than two decades of experience and leadership in community economic development, nonprofits, and public policy, Fakhoury is poised to lead CEDAM in advancing inclusive, community-driven change across Michigan.
“Eddie is a great choice as CEDAM’s next executive director,” said Smith. “He will help CEDAM continue its community and economic development work while also working with the staff and cultivating new, innovative ideas for programming and fundraising.”
Fakhoury most recently served as assistant county executive for Wayne County, where he led countywide, cross-sector initiatives focused on operational excellence, strategic communications, economic development, government relations, and public-private partnerships. He also brings a strong nonprofit background, having founded a statewide organization supporting education foundations and serving as executive director of the Dearborn Public Schools Education Foundation. During his tenure, he increased revenues by more than 50%, launched six new scholarship funds, and established the Foundation’s first endowment.
“I’m honored to have been chosen to help reimagine and lead this organization into its next chapter,” said Fakhoury. “I’m excited to collaborate with such a committed staff and board of directors, and I look forward to the important work we’ll accomplish together to serve our great state during these challenging times.”
Smith will work closely with Fakhoury as he adjusts and transitions to his new role. We’re excited for the future of CEDAM with Fakhoury at the helm. “His expertise and creative approach will be instrumental in driving our organization forward, strengthening our impact, and fostering meaningful connections,” said Essence Wilson, CEDAM’s Board president and chief strategy officer for Communities First, Inc.
